It's winter and you have to take the weather as it comes.
Late Thursday and all of Friday we are going to get smacked around the back of the head with some strong southerly winds.........all's good,......you can still get out on the water on days like today and also tomorrow till the early evening.
My number one rule is watch the weather each day and look at the forecasts a number of days ahead and you can plan your sessions out on the water. It is winter after all so it's all about working smarter not harder.........it also pays to double check the forecast before you head out on the water.
I don't believe in being a hero and going out and running the swells in the winter........that's the sort of stuff I like doing in the summer or the warmer months, besides most people are not running swells at this time of the year many are just doing maintenance paddling or building up a base of fitness or getting some basic amount of paddling under their belts.
So remember in winter the shoreline is every bodies friend, so when the water conditions look quite challenging take the option of avoiding capsizing in winter as it's not the most pleasant time to be taking a swim.
A friendly reminder to people "we are all paddlers" and basically in NZ paddlers don't tend to wear wet suits we use gear suitable for paddling though each of the Seasons............we basically all like to be on top of the water in the winter months.
In closing as I've always said......... "It is winter after all" lets all be sensible about what we are doing and look after the people at the grass roots of our sports.
Events coming up....
June 29 Hikoikoi Matariki
July 7 Winter Series Event THREE Evans Bay with Sharlene and Chester
July 28 Winter Series Event FOUR Onepoto with Turi
Aug 4 Mana KRC CRNZ KK 10 km Series event
