Watersports Facility at Petone

I had a meeting today with Michael Mercer from the Hutt City Council, he is the Sport Relationship Manager. Many other people and Clubs are also having discussions with him as well.

The Hutt City Council are planning to build a joint Watersports Facility within the Korokoro Gateway.

Potentially this could be the best Watersports Facility in Wellington with an array of watersports groups and maybe a mix of Commercial Operators as well?
The site is great in a Northerly, as from my rough count 80 % plus of the time we get a Northerly, or one that rockets through at a great rate of knots, the Motorway offers us fantastic shelter close to the shoreline down this stretch.

In a Southerly it's shallow enough to just shimmy along the Petone Foreshore and up the Hutt River and you can still squeeze a session in.

Watch this space if you are keen to set up a Kayak/Canoe or Stand Up Paddle Board Club get planning now and go have a talk to Mike to see how The Hutt City Council can assist your Club.

My hot tip for a Water sports Super site is between Greta Point and the Coastguard building on Evans Bay Parade a mix of Clubs and commercial retail/hire this area offers shelter in a Southerly and Northerly, heaps of parking and close to all the transport links that the Wellington public, tourists, schools and other organisations require.

Can it happen..............well, yes it can.
