Think surf skis in NZ for 2013

For anyone looking at surf skis in 2013.............or do you have mates that may be interested.

This Season Think Kayaks International have two new surf skis to add to their current range..............they are highlighted in bold below.

Fergs Kayaks are the New Zealand Agents for Think Kayaks and their job has been made much more difficult than in previous years.
The annual container load that arrives in September this year may contain around 30 to 40 Think surf skis in it. Alan Ferguson now has to figure out how this is all going to work...................5 models and 3 different constructions.

What tends to happen is some constructions may get under ordered so people miss out on buying their preferred ski. Sometimes this comes down to how much we are prepared to pay, the weight of ski we require.......In previous years I have missed out on getting the ski and type of construction I'd like................I've learnt my lesson, so I would like to make sure others are more aware of what's going on.

Daryl Remmler at Think Kayaks International has given both Alan and myself a heads up on new releases.

The new models haven't been been Officially launched Internationally, but we are getting a heads up as the NZ order (pre order and stock) skis close off on April 15, 2013.

Ion - more rocker like the Evo II, the same seat, sized down to fit the Ion great both upwind and downwind and great secondary stability
If you like the Epic V 10 or Fenn Mako 6 you're going to love this ski.

Big Eze - nice comfortable seat like the Evo II will suit a larger build of paddler who may well share this ski easily with Partner/Husband/Wife or mate who may be of a lighter build.

Models:

Uno Max...........6.45m long x 430mm wide
Ion.................... 6.42m long x 445mm wide
Evo II................ 6.25m long x 480mm wide
Eze................... 5.2 m  long x  510mm wide
Big Eze............ 5.4 m  long x 560mm wide

Constructions:

Ultimate - Carbon with kevlar strengthening and honeycomb11 kg approx + or -
Elite - Kevlar/carbon weave and honeycomb 12 kg approx + or -
Performance - Glass/coremat with carbon strengthening 15.5 kg approx + or -

  1. The Ion looks like a winner for Think in terms of competing with the Fenn Elite (the perfect ski in my mind in terms of a long term investment). If the price of the Performance Ion is roughly $500 more than an entry level Fenn Elite it will be a winner, since Think skis seems to have better features.
