Travel to Paddle on Sunday

It would have been nice to do this the following weekend................ but we just never know how long these reasonably quiet breezes by (Wellington standards)............. will hang around for.

Sunday is looking like we will be have a light Southerly breeze no more than 20 kmh.

"Travel to paddle" is a touring activity which we are doing for an article for Standing Room Only NZ magazine www.standingroomonlynz.co.nz We're doing it as a group activity with a picnic stop at the 3/4 distance mark.
This article is being written to showcase SUP in Wellington and also as a bucket list tourist activity

Here's the plan:

Meet on Oriental Parade at 9 am (we will be there 15 minutes early)....................we will be parked 50 metres South of Oriental Terrace on that same side of the road, there is a nice grass area to place your boards on

Place any bags with food or drink in to my van, Chester will drive to Shelly Bay and meet everyone............while Sharlene gets to paddle!

At 9.15 we will paddle North along Oriental Parade, turn right into Evans Bay head to the Marina at the bottom of Cobham Drive, paddle along Cobham Drive past all the wind sculptures, then downwind around the little bays to the boat ramp at Shelly Bay

Food and drink stop 45 mins to an hour................you can meet Family or friends there if you wish.

After you've had a little sunbath ate and recharged your batteries we'll then paddle across to Balaena Bay then up to Point Jerningham then finishing back on Oriental Parade again..............if some want to go over to Frank Kitts Park and back again they are more than welcome to extend the journey.

The outward leg is 7.5 km approx and the homeward leg is 3.5 km it's a social activity so bring a social type board along if you have one other.................or just cruise on whatever board you have.

So start planning a trip to the deli to get your picnic bits together and we'll see you on Sunday.

Minimum safety equipment a leg leash...............PFD if your SUP retailer sold you one :-)
