surf ski demo & Twilight event

You know the Think surf ski paddlers because they're the ones with the big smiles on their faces!

We had a few people trying out surf skis tonight and one of the pleasing things was seeing a Family coming in and all trying the surf skis............thanks John, Sue and Katelin who know Liam, and also Sharlene know's Sue through her work in the IT sector as well.

Thanks to Dave who is always working over his weekly hours at Fergs Kayaks either running kayak trips and running the demos with us and of course providing the surf skis.

Fergs Kayaks are really short on stock this season and we had to call on our good mate Sam Cuneen from Perth to bring his personal ski along and one of mine which Glenn Muirhead paddled.

Dave and I will be doing all the pre ordering of Think surf skis for Wellington and the South Island this Season and we will be taking pre orders so people get the surf ski they require. Currently Auckland don't order much of the stock that we require at this end of the Country............for example I'm ordering a Carbon 10.5kg ski and we were well short of glass Evo II and glass Eze skis this Season. Chester will send an e-mail out to let people know when the ordering deadline is...........think about early April for the time being.........the container arrives in NZ in September.

One thing I would like to stress to people is though you can paddle one of the narrower skis in conditions like tonight we shouldn't punch about our weight with some of them...............instead go for something like a Think Evo II for starters or a V10 sport.

The reason for this is that we all need to learn to re train ourselves on a surf ski which can be different to a kayak and get the set up right to make it easier to balance and there fore paddle. A surf ski really relish those wind conditions with lots of swell and chop that kayaks struggle in sometimes. The rudder on the bottom of the surf ski is also far more effective for many manoeuvres in rougher conditions.

A cheap second hand surf ski is not always the answer and depending on the brand some can be more trouble than they are worth.

Trying before you buy is the best option this way the surf ski spends more time on the water than on the racks in the shed.
