Paddling won.......Someone's phone alarm went off at 6 am........on a Saturday??
Hell I'm the proverbial sleep in guy.........well to at least till 8 am.........but I can occasionally lift the bones out of bed early when I want to.
A bit slow out of the blocks..........didn't get on the water till 8.40am.........Hataitai Beach again and straight into it with an easy downwind warm up courtesy of a 25 kmh Southerly.
Around past Oriental Parade and into the Lagoon by Frank Kitts Park and there's some Dragon Boat racing on. I get asked by an Officials to watch out for them as "they are racing"..........yes I can see that..........and yes I was well out of there way.
Funny thing about many minority Sports they don't publicise what they are doing. We have heaps of free Community newspapers in Wellington, all are very readable and many groups send their activities into to them...........and what do you know they get them published!
I never saw anything about dragon boating in the papers.......... and they are a good way to promote your Sport and let people know not to plan a journey or other event near you area and also good to get the public into the City to view your Sport/activity.
I love reading about other Sports in the free local Newspapers right across the Country............so what I'm saying use them they will help to promote your Sport to a new audience.
Photos: Dragon Boaters near Frank Kitts Park, A swim training squad by Freyberg Beach and Yachties just off Greta Point............. and an hour paddling on the Think Evo II by me...... click on any photo to enlarge
Hey the breeze is pretty steady for tomorrows "Travel to Paddle" see you on Oriental Parade from 8.45 to 9.10 am................we may change the course slightly depending on the wind speed...............it has to be an easy paddle.......... since it is a touring activity.
If you are running late or have missed the start phone Chester 022 6455 820.
