............You are quite often in a good position to judge which way the forecast is going to go.
I enjoy the challenge of our weather and along with checking the tides I'm generally able to pick a course where I can use both to my advantage when I get out on the water.
Yesterday the forecast didn't look too flash with Thunderstorms predicted late afternoon............when I planned to go out..............but they didn't eventuate today on the stretch of water I was paddling, though someone may have got them further up the coast I'm picking.
Today I had a 25 kmh southerly and some fairly steady drizzle/rain rain at just after 5 pm, as the worst of it had blown over an hour or so earlier so Hataitai Beach was where I launched. I decided to head around Cobham Drive in the shallows (being low tide) to Shelly Bay on the Think Evo II...........two things work well for me, the Evo II adds some extra resistance to make me work a bit harder and so do the shallow spots. Across the Eastern side it was actually quite sheltered, and even if it cuts up, you can carve in and out of the sheltered bays along the Coastline as you head back upwind.
This eastern Coastline of Evans Bay is a beautiful to paddle and is thoroughly under utilised as a training ground for every type of paddle craft.
A good week over all and every one of the 5 craft at home has been on the water during this period............starting to get some fitness back again, perfect. Day off tomorrow, looking forward to Saturday!
