How do we do this?
Well most of the time you'll see me running around firing one of my surf skis in the water and paddling in someone else's events.............I don't expect too much in the way of reciprocation for any of our events, just that people pay forward and support another event that is paddling related.........then we will see events continue to grow by getting paddlers to support them a little more.
I usually e-mail and phone people up to ask them when their events are coming up, sometimes they may say "we want to improve our event"...................so I'll give them some ideas of what I've experienced through travelling around to events and talking to other people and give my personal view on what they can do.
At the end of the day everyone works within their comfort zones and it comes down to what time they have to put in and what help others can give to them.
I might talk a lot but don't mind doing what is required by working behind the scenes whether it be sending out e-mails to mailing groups or writing articles for Sportzhub or prompting people on our website with an event date or pre and post race articles.
I like to keep things simple...................you are better to do 3 or 4 things really well running an event, than trying to perform too many tasks and executing them all in an average way.
If people think I critique their events and pull them up on what they don't do..................don't worry I'm a lot tougher in regard to the way we run our events and strip everything right down to the nuts and bolts to make sure we are running our events safely and efficiently. I also like to remind all paddlers to do their bit by skill building to ready themselves for our events and whatever the Weather Gods throw at us on the day..............you've basically got to prepare yourself well, and get out there and give it a crack.
If we all work on the concept of continual improvement well see our kayaking/paddling events flourish.
Anyhow check the event calendar on the left hand side of the page and I'll post some words and photos from the Twilight paddling tonight...................later on.
