It's been a while since we all paddled en mass around to the Carter Fountain on Oriental Parade and back................but last night it was worth the wait.
What looked like a light 20 kmh southerly made it slightly tricky for the first and last 300 metres, (if you are balance challenged in a tippy boat) where you paddle across a side swell.
Like I said to one of the boys last night not everyone has the balance of an Olympic Gymnast and that's why you will see a few people with 2 boat or board options in Wellington.
The course didn't quite have all the perfect swells we would normally get, swells from a number of motorboats, (which many used to their advantage) an incoming tide which made the outward leg a bit more of a grind and the high tide also accentuates the reflective wash off some of the seawalls (at low tide the backwash is less of an issue)
Since it was one of those fine weather paddling days there were a number of people entered and also a few that choose to take their own course.
The Tuesday Twilights are a good night to go for a group paddle you don't have to race around like a mad bugger if you don't fell like it, just get out and participate...................life's not about racing all the time!
The starts are staggered with various paced groups of varying speeds, most are just out for a cruise just like me!
Tonight I paddled from the back of the field on the Think Uno max and had a good bobbly paddle there and back, it wasn't fast but a really enjoyable paddle................next time I'll start in one of the intermediate groups so I get more of a social leisurely paddle with a bit of chit chat along the way.
