We are all go for tomorrow.

A light North Westerly 8kmh.....then changing to a light southerly around midday.

Great conditions for fine weather paddlers !

What do we do?

- Well we run this Website as a hub for paddlers to track events and other like minded groups.

- Freelance work for the Think Kayak International brand, as well as various other manufacturers of paddling related craft and equipment.

- After a 3 year break we are back as strong as ever and we started our run again in September 2018 with Monthly events and also started a weekly Twlight Paddle Series every Wednesday evening from Dolly Vardon Beach, Mana, Porirua City. The "Cold Kiwi Series" is back in the swing of things and has so far attracted between 15 & 67 paddlers to each event.

We also run one big event each year which is the Motorway Event on March 24, it's a 14 km out and back course from Petone to the Interislander........and you guessed it, it runs along the Motorway!

We also run a 6 km & 3 km option for those who are unable to achieve to paddle the long course under 1 hr 45 minutes.

From 2019 Welly Paddlers are also picking up the Foxton Loop Race on August 31 and we are returning the event back to the Foxton Township with 2 x 12 km options a 6 km and 3 km option.

July 7 we are headed to the Clive River in Hawkes Bay to Event Manage a 12 km, 5km km & 2.5 km Event for the wider Hawkes Bay Paddling community. This is a Hawkes Bay event, and the idea was encourage a flow of paddlers back and forth between Wellington, Whanganui and Hawkes Bay. In 2020 Hawkes Bay Kayak Racing Club will take over this event.

Why I'm a Think Surf ski Paddler?

Well I stumbled across Think Kayak in 2009 after I'd seen that Think had sponsored a surf ski for a prize in one of the New Zealand "King & Queen of the Harbour" races.

I searched the web and read info about the Think Kayak Evo that was being made under licence in South Africa by Knysna Kayaks. I read some really interesting info about the design and that the ski was actually designed by Think Kayak in Canada...........now Think Kayak Global.

My first purchase came after viewing the Think Kayak International website I managed to get hold of Stewart O' Regan, who is Think Kayak Australia. Stewart had a spare ski in a crate of 4 x surf skis that he had arranged to come into NZ I ended up choosing the Think Legend at the time (now not part of the current range)

My second Think Kayak ski was a Kevlar Evo second hand, (which came into NZ in the very first consignment)

I bought it second hand off www.sportzhub.com on the Trading Post, It was of kevlar/ carbon construction (Elite) one of the yellow and grey ones and I paid $3000 for it.

We've since been to Vancouver (2010 & 2014) paddling their beautiful waterways, met and paddled with Daryl Remmler and also met Bob Putnam and the Team at Coast Outdoors who run a great paddling business in North Vancouver.

In around 2011 Fergs Kayaks became our New Zealand Agent for Think Kayak. Around 2014 Alan Ferguson left the Business for a new career. Alan was a key driver in Fergs Kayaks taking on the Think Kayak Agency. Late 2015 Fergs Kayaks starting shedding there Think Kayak stock and things went into limbo for a few years.

In September 2017 Kayak HQ in Nelson took on the NZ Agency for Think Kayak with their first container coming into the Country via Nelson with skis being seemlessly distributed to North Island customers proving that being based in the South Island was no big deal.

In September 2018 Kayak HQ bought their second container into NZ through Auckland with skis again with "custom coloured" and other arranged deliveries being delivered quickly and efficiently, after the container landed.

The reason I like the Evo is that in Wellington we get an extraordinary number of windy days and it is shaped very much like a kayak, but has the handling and remounting ideosyncrasies that suit me......primarily it's stable and it's competitive.

I have always been a big fav of the Evo and especially the river construction Think Kayak skis which weigh in at 14 kg (depending on what length and width) The river construction surf skis have a b-sleeve insert at the stern of the ski where you can seemlessy add or remove a smart track flip rudder onto (changing from understern to flip rudder takes approx 2 minutes to change over)

I have several favourite surf skis nowadays with the Six, Ace ( A Zen and Jet arriving in 2022 ) all being great choices on a harbour with winds that at times have the ability to terrorise our City and waterways, though shelter can always be found somewhere if and when needed.
