Paddling at Paremata

No not the Sydney suburb that's home to the famous Rugby League team the Eels, but it sounds the same. Out with Dave McKnight another Think Kayak convert who's gone from an Evo II to an Uno Max and now to a Think Ion which he just loves to bits.
Dave, by paddling his Think surf skis, out in the Northern Wellington suburbs also seems to be influencing a few others and mates into also buying Think surf skis, he's also doing a great job putting you-tube videos together from various events he's done.

Today we were also out with Dave's workmate Barton Fletcher who was paddling (Dave's) older Burton surf life saving spec. ski. The surf spec skis are pretty tough to paddle first up especially the one's with shallow seats and when the leg length is a bit short, it's pretty tough especially when it gets choppy. The Think skis have lower seats and are fully adjustable.........get yourself set up properly with one of these skis, your body will benefit from this and you'll really start to enjoy your paddling as you should do.
A few of my workmates have talked about buying a kayak, and like many they tend to buy something off Trade Me that really doesn't cut the mustard sometimes, as they buy them sight unseen, it's too heavy, and totally unsuitable for what they want to do, all buyer beware stuff really.
I tend to tell people just to go to Fergs Kayaks and hire a kayak 3 or 4 times, if they take to it, then they can start looking for
the type of boat they will feel comfortable in.
Fergs Kayaks also hire out the brand new surf skis in the Think Kayak range that they are selling. Try before you buy and if you've hired a ski a few times they may even knock the hireage fee off the price you pay for a new one........it's the old adage it never costs anything to ask.
