It's not all about going nuts every time I'm out on the water on a surf ski or SUP, I like to get the occassional snap of any of the locals. I caught seal pup chilling out at Point Jerningham, taken from the Think Evo 2 ski. Sharlene and I parked up on Oriental Parade for a spin on the Fantatic SUP's first and then while Sharlene took a break for some retail therapy I went out on the ski to complete my exercise for the day.
With the traditional Autumn calm in the April and May period in Wellington, it's a great time to sneak some events in. We had the Motorway Classic in mid April then the Tai Tonga 41 Outrigger Canoe Club ran Evans Bay event the weekend later. Last weekend May 5, the long running Crazyman multisport event took place, both these events were run on days that showed off the typical Autumn calm on the Harbour.

Coming up:
A great event that I'll be missing this weekend the Portage Race. The portage starts in Picton it's 10 km paddle on the Queen Charlotte Sound a 2 km portage to Kenepuru Sound, 7 km paddle, 2.2 km portage then back on the Queen Charlotte Sound for a 10 km paddle to finish. http://marlboroughmultisport.wordpress.com/
On the local Scene:
12 days to go till the first event of the 2013 Welly Paddlers Winter Series.I can't think of a better way to plot a course through the winter than to aim at doing the 7 events (including Matariki) that run every three weeks through to
Spring. So get out there and thumb your nose up at winter just like around 80 paddlers did at most events last Season. The first event is in Evans Bay on May 26 with venues evenly shared between the Wellington, Petone and Porirua Waterways.
The series is bought to you by a collaboration of Event Organisers Joern Scherzer, Turi Hodges, Chris Fox, Sharlene and myself..........and of course it's not event without the support of all the paddlers out there.
