Saturday morning jaunt

This morning went out for 90 minutes doing the "promo route" from Greta Point paddling along the shoreline around to Oriental Parade, around the fountain and swimming jetties into Chaffers Marina, along Te Papa into Fergs Kayaks Wellington base, around to Foxglove, into the lagoon by Frank Kitts Park then back home.

There's no better advertising for product or sport than seeing people out on the water and close to where the public can get a fleeting glimpse as you rock on past them. I also find that you feel like you are making good progress close to the shoreline as well, plus the journey can be quite interesting, whereas when you are out in the middle of the Harbour it takes an eternity to reach the next point you are aiming at which can be quite a distance away, it's like pulling teeth. Today stopped and chewed the fat with Dave from Fergs and one of the guys from work who stopped to give me a damned good harrassing.

A good day for fine weather watersports peoples today, it was nice and warm and sunny (at 5000 metres), hence it was overcast at sea level.
A good number of rowing singles, doubles and a four out from the Lagoon based Rowing Clubs and also a few multisport kayaks, who base themselves at Kupe Canoe Club at Greta Point, then a Waka Ama single and O.C. 6 were also spotted, then me.
As usual when you see multisport kayaks around our harbour you quickly notice that JKK Kayaks out number every other brand out there with an approx market share of at least 50 percent, just about forgot a bunch of about 8 Stand Up Paddle board paddlers were out on boards from the Fergs Kayaks hire fleet as well.

When it comes to Surf skis Think Kayaks surf skis are starting to out number the other brands down here. There are other Manufacturers surf skis down here in good numbers but there skis seem to spend most of there time sitting in storage racks in Clubs or at home.

I'm enjoying getting my fitness back up again and will just focus on avoiding any r.s.i. and just getting back into the groove of paddling well and riding the waves.

Two Favourite surfing spots on the Ski in the Eastern Suburbs Bays:
Greta Point to Cobham Drive, Evans Bay in any Northerly
Karaka Bay to Worser Bay, Seatoun in any Northerly
- the swells are smooth and you get good 400 - 500 metre plus runs.

This Tuesday I'll be able to do a good bunch paddle with others at the regular Tuesday night kayak Series run by the Kupe Canoe Club http://www.kupe.org.nz/
