Cold Kiwi Series times and details

Porirua City is certainly busy with paddlers out and about through the winter and it was great to have 43 paddling in Event THREE.....of SIX....of the "Cold Kiwi Series" today at Dolly Vardon Park, Mana.

Though we announced it was a 7 km and 3.5 km course....I generally look at a good buoy dropping point and today after checking the drop points post event...each lap was actually 400 metres longer. This is o.k as the original intention is that long courses are between 7 km  and 8 km.

One thing that's picked up on at every event is that paddlers aim to follow or wash hang off someone of a similar speed...whether it's a kayak, waka ama, surf ski or stand up paddle board on the water....it's all about keeping good company and pushing each other along. It's also great that all the paddling sports mingle together we get an appreciation of how each persons craft's maneuvering skills and how fast the waka ama and also stand up paddle boards can go.

Of course the events are not all about going uber fast.....they're a good excuse to get out and get a good paddling session in with a great bunch of people.

Sharlene was her usual dynamo self clocking everyone in at the finish with some good close groupings and you'll see in the photos on the Welly Paddlers Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/WellyPaddlers?ref=hl ...to see how close everyone really is. Big thanks to our guest photographer this week Shayne Garret.
Shayne's an awesome supporter of paddling you would have seen with at "The Motorway Classic" and "The Matariki Harbour Challenge" in a support craft with Pete Humphris they are a great team assisting at paddling events....when they are not out diving and fishing together.
