10 days till Cold Kiwi TWO

The weeks have passed fairly quickly since the last event at Porirua and we're not far away from our second event which will be based in Petone, in the Hutt City territory.

A number of years back the Hutt City area held a number of Kayak events, it's still home to a good number of paddlers who actually travel to Porirua and Wellington City and belong to clubs there. Waka Ama is well represented with the Kokiri and Hikoikoi Waka Ama Clubs are both active in Petone.....and it's also the home of SUP NZ (Traci and Darryn) here's their link https://www.facebook.com/supnz?fref=ts

Over the weekend in the Wairarapa Paddy Rimene Organised event two of the Wairarapa Winter Paddling Series on Henley Lake....and while we get steady support from people travelling over to all our events in Wellington....we should all think about reciprocating and returning the favour with our support as well.

On June 20 Brian Sanders starts the first of three mid winter kayak events down the Ruamahanga River they are on a grade 1 stretches of water.... so flip rudders are definitely the order of the day...unless the river is up over 60 - 80 cumecs....this level will likely miss any tree branches or shallow sections.

As far as the Cold Kiwi Series goes we will be posting Event Rules for everyone to read on a board at Registration. Everything else that pertains to the Event, will detailed at the Event briefing.
Everyone must attend this.....Looking at photos from the last event.... people were late or on the water when this occurred.

Remember the Event flyer also says PFD's..... the Harbour Masters Office have expressed concern about the lack of them seen in our media.
So remember the cost of any fine for not wearing or carrying one.... is about the cost of buying one !

Be careful and safe out there and make yourselves aware of the Harbour and navigation bylaws.
