The River level on the Ruamahanga River is sitting at 41 cumecs which is reasonably low............but not as boney as it is at 14 - 18 cumecs.
The forecast is for showers on Thursday, Friday and Saturday which may see rain fall in the essential catchments that feed the headwaters of the Waiohine River (more so) and also the Waingawa River.
The Waiohine River feeds into the Ruamahanga between Ponatahi and Morrisons Bush, while the Waingawa feeds into the Ruamahanga further North, closer to Masterton.
On the new course the faster paddlers have done 1 hr 50min to 1 hr 55min with a good flow of around 100 to 120 cumecs and 2 hours 5 mins with a flow of approx 80 cumecs.
In the first number years that this event ran, it was over the 28km distance. The longer 31 km course has been used now for the past 4 years, with the get out point on the same side of the river as the Township of Martinborough........ so some can squeeze in a quick beer or wine after the event finishes. :-)
Both the skis are in dry dock till Thursday (on day shift at the moment) then back into it again in between my night shifts, making the most of the balmy pre Spring Weather.
Slowly seeing more people out on the water again, maybe many will be seen on the Ruamahanga on Sunday. For more details on the event http://www.wmsc.org.nz/
