Olympic Countdown 42 days to go

I love the Olympics I always have, it's a varitable smorgasborg of Sports, and even though some become World Champions, it always looks a damned site harder to reach the podium at the Olympics it's one tough yardstick. Forget the Rugby anyone can win a World Cup at home, what about our top flight Olympians they always do fantastically well across the other side of the World.

Kiwis have always excelled at past Olympics, originally it was at the track and field disciplines, then it was mainly on the water with Yachting, Rowing and Kayaking.

The Rowers have always produced great perfomances at the Olympics over the previous four decades. The best Olympics for our Country was 1984 when the NZ Team won a big haul of Gold medals and outshone the Australians................ not long after that the Australian Institute of Sport swung into action.

Moments in recent times that I've enjoyed personally are Danyon Loaders efforts silver medal in 1992 then two gold medals in 1996. Hamish Carter bombing at Triathlon in Sydney 2000 then winning Gold and Bevan Docherty Silver in 2004. Ben Fouhy silver in 2004 then 4 th in 2008. Dissapppointing personal performances build character, they make people mentally tougher and make them more determined to do better next time. I have my eye on a couple of individuals this Olympics they have both been through some tough times with both their Sports so I'll be carrying my lucky rabbits tail, touching wood, wearing my lucky red socks when they compete.

The Olympics, it's only once every four years and I have a good feeling that London 2012 is going to be a goody................. apart from the usual announcement from the IOC of being the best Olympics ever!
