A big day out on the Whanganui River on Saturday... the forecast was for fine weather and a 15kmh to 25kmh South Westerly. I was looking at the water at the start and thought yeah nah....it's looking something like 30 kmh to 35 kmh....and this produced some nice head and tail wind swells, on the mid to southern ends of the course.
Anyone from Wellington who was paddling a surf ski would have been pretty happy, Dave McKnight said that he enjoyed the extra wind swell it slowed a few K1's down and a few of them were passed...and other's clearly weren't !
A turn out slightly down on other years.......but in saying that the event wasn't held last year, so now it's back on the calendar again with some extra support it will grow again back to the heady days when 60 to 80 paddlers out on the water, showed the type of support this event, like many others, really deserves.
A great event to be part of thanks to Aaron Cox, Aimee Simpson and the Team from the Wanganui Kayak Club
