The Foxton Loop was celebrated today with many paddlers who have done a number of the previous years events and also some new faces.
What amazes me about many of these events are there are some real loyal supporters who make a yearly pilgrimage to events like this one. I have mentioned previously in other articles, what a great sight it is to see the Waitara Canoe Club travelling up to 3 hours
to events and they radiate up to Hamilton where I've seen them out in force up there as well. One thing that impressed me today is there were a couple of 14 year olds and some not that much older.......... taking on the 18 kms of paddling today......like the bumper stickers, they don't call them "Hard Core Taranaki" up there for nothing!
Kayak type events continue to evolve and we now see Stand Up Paddle boarders, Waka Ama and surf ski paddlers joining up with sea kayaks, multisport kayaks and K1's. There is also an equal mix of speedsters, middle of the road paddlers and recreational paddlers, all paddling to complete the challenges that are on offer, on the day.
Thanks to the Ruahine White Water Club for running this event
every year for the past 25 years.....it's not all beer and cookies running an event for this period of time, if it was easy everyone would still be doing the same......your efforts are much appreciated by all us paddlers.
Also thanks to all the paddlers who have done this event twice to ten times over the years and also to those who turned out for the
first time, great to see you at Foxton.... see you again next year and don't forget to encourage some more of your mates to come along as well.
Here's a few end view photos from today.........and now on the right hand side of the page is a photo slideshow
To view the results go to http://www.rwwc.org.nz/ they should be there to view in the next couple of days.
