Big Saturday effort

Well the SUP paddle around on Saturday with Emma and Phillip was aborted due to winds being more suitable for wind and kitesurfing than stand up paddle board in Wellington. That did not deter 11 people from turning up and have a coffee near the venue and talking SUP, what's happening and where it's going. Big UP's to Howie for liasing with everyone to make this activity happen.

In the big Whanganui with an 'H' on Saturday, there was also plenty of 'W' for wind. I think there were about 40 to 50 peoples on the water. A good number of K1's which probably out numbered multisport kayaks, which is a very rare feat at any LD kayak event at this end of the Country. The rest of the feild was made up of surf skis, sea kayaks and also an ocean rowing quad crew.

A great turnout from the locals of course, and also many travelled from New Plymouth, Wellington, Ashurst, Palmerston North, Levin and also Ben Bennett from Napier, who like the Waitara crowd, travel as much as I do to support everyone's events. Next year I'm heading up to Hawkes Bay to show support for their race when they hold one again.
In the last 5 months I've been to the Waitara,Wairarapa, Blenheim, Foxton x 2, Warkworth , 7 races of the Wellington Winter Series and the last 5 of Mana's Twilight races. It's not about being up the front of the feild for me, it's about supporting events.
"Everyone should remember, to get more people at your events, and especially around the mid to lower North Island, you need to support each others events, not to just support your mates events."

We had a mass start which was really interesting with the 13 km and 4 km courses starting together with the Ocean Rowers.

Great effort put in by the Wanganui Kayak and Multisport Club, with race Organiser Aaron Cox helped by a number of Club members, great cuppa, snarlers and home baking (as in cakes and biscuits) at the finish. Also click on the link on Sportzub below:

  2. Hey thanks to both of you for all the great work you are doing promoting SUP.
Next time you are down, I'm sure the weather will be more settled for a good SUP paddle. We just love our wind here, but don't mind when it drops off for SUP'n as well. Yes I hope some of our group can make a visit to Auckland in the near future.
