Manawatu River LD Race

Big day out in Foxton for a good bunch of keen paddlers and also supporters. As mentioned the Foxton Loop is a very special waterway and as many would have seen by the signage this was the Flax route where many boats plied their trade into Foxton and then out through the Foxton bar to other Coastal ports.

Big thanks again today to Sharlene for all the work she does on the day, it's usually a real lollie scramble for her to do the starts, timing and communicate the course to people when they register and general chit chat while I'm out throwing buoys out.

We've always got a few back up plans for things that can go array.............. and today the buoy on the short end of the loop was taken out by a log floating through with the tide............that's where the briefing comes in...............if the buoy wasn't there turn at the power lines!

Big Thanks today to Kate Booth for helping out with the timekeeping, Dave Annear at Fergs Kayaks Wellington for the discounted spot prizes, Glenn Butcher from Wind Warrior Kitesports and SUP's for his awesome support of the various paddles series we're involved in and bringing along all his mates every race. Also other locals Mike Tate, Davie Hughes from Swazi, Max Grant and the crew from Ruahine White Water Club, former local and NZ under 23 Kayaking rep Jasper Batts (now based in Gisbourne) and his former clubmates from the Mana Kayak Racing Club.

Last but not least huge Thanks to Bev Winiata (my Mother-n-law) for all the awesome baking we had post event.........we had ginger crunch, toastie bar, biscuit fudge, queen cakes, lousie cake, kisses and old fashioned cheese cakes (Sharlene)

Noted........... hey heaps of girls and ladies out on the water today, awesome effort..........go the girls!

One last thanks to Glenn Butcher again for hooking us onto "The Horowhenua Mail" Journalist/Photographer Kelvin Teixeira..........just google later this week to see online photos and an article.
