Long Distance Racing

Sunday August 19 is the first race of the Spring Season of great little LD races we have within arms reach of Wellington............will many of them are.

We have again taken the opportunity to run a race out of Foxton............. "Fokkie" as one of the cuzzies calls it.
Sharlene was bought up just down the road in Levin and her Dad, Horowhenua District Councillor the late Donald Winiata was a champion of the Foxton area when it came to works that needed doing.

From my point of view when I started going out with Sharlene just over 20 years ago I loved venturing out around the Foxton Loop which was, and still is a great training and racing venue.

Back in November 2010 we held our first race on the Loop which was the Foxton to Foxton Beach Craft Race (9km) this was inspired by the old Manawatu River Race (7 km) run by the Foxton Beach Surf Life Saving Club, I used to do this race in the early 90's.

The 2012 version of the Manawatu River LD Race will provide a good mix of craft and distances never seen on this waterway before.............. it's fresh and it's new and we'd like it to breath new life back on this waterway again to lift it's profile. This will also send a message out to Territorial Authorities that instead of putting signs up to put people off using our waterways that they need to be more proactive and act to protect them.
A Big thanks to those supporting this event like Max and Melz Grant Ruahine White Water Club, Glenn Butcher Wind Warrior Kite Sports and SUP's Foxton and Mike Tate Levin and last but not least Bev Winiata also from Levin.

We've got some awesome spot prizes lined up for the event.........good products that you can actually use............ and free food (not from the entry fees) you will be impressed!
