Race 12 Ngatitoa

Thanks for another really good turnout for the last race today, with 35 paddlers taking to the water.

It's always encouraging when paddlers are making the effort to support their paddling mates and if the cooler weather and gusty winds and outgoing tides weren't enough to contend with today, many paddlers were out yesterday supporting the Tai Tonga 41 Clubs annual Baleana Bay Marathon. Saturdays races meant paddlers did the 10km in the singles then turned around and did another 10 km in the OC 6's within the space of a couple of hours. If that wasn't enough another 10 km today and I can tell you that a few paddlers would have been doing the old horizontal thing on the couch on Sunday afternoon, taking a well earned rest.

I missed the above race yesterday, as I was watching one of my brothers, he retained his Jetsprint Superboat Series title in Featherston, he had a huge off and did a triple barrel roll in his boat (trashed the hull with a minor leg injury to his father law who is the co driver) but had enough points to win due to 4 other round wins. www.inyaface97.blogspot.com view the short you tube video on their website, that Sharlene also set up.

As you know today the wind was doing it's thing out there, trying to wear you all down, the water was disappearing from underneath you all in places, causing the old bottom drag to come into play, and also exposing the odd rock (mainly on the turn around to Browns Bay) and the tide was also with you, then against you, then with you, confused yes, tired yes, but in the end everyone managed to make it to the finish, all in really good time considering.

As mentioned at the Prize giving big thanks to Dianne Morgan for making the most awesome batch of ANZAC biscuits I have ever tasted, this was fitting as today we remember all the people who entered the Services, to serve our Country back in the day, and not to forget, Dave Ryde who played photographer for Sharlene today.

Keep an eye on the events section on the right hand side of the page for the winter spring months. We are conscious of the fact that if you have a website you have to update it regularly, if you don't do this you shouldn't have one, everyone likes to read fresh and up to date information.

The 2010/2011 Season will start again at the end of September with races running through to the end of April.

Congrats to all who have supported the Series with 12 races over the last 7 months, you are making the Welly Paddlers Series very well known in our Region, around the Country and also around the World thanks to the Internet. You all also provide great viewing to the public around the greater Wellington Area and I'm sure you all inspire others to get out and have ago as well..........that's what racing in numbers does, it creates a great spectacle and you all get noticed.

A few Businesses and People I'd like to thank over the last 7 months who have supported us:

Sharlene Winiata for doing all the hard yards on the day, while I enjoy the leisurely stuff out on the water.

Most of all Thanks to you the paddlers, without your support we wouldn't have the good races that we have.

If anyone's after lightweight buoyancy vests go view our website link for Mocke vests www.paddlekitnz.com (I wear one of them they are lightweight and allow great air flow) and also check out the compact waste belt inflatable vest on www.hutchwilco.co.nz

We will print more of them next Season in batches of 10 plus, (I'm not sure that we will be able to get them at $25 next year as it was a really good deal) there will be a 3 week delivery time.................. order at one race, get it at the next race.
