Well today race was a bit tricky today on some stretches of the course and unfortunately the downwind sections didn't offer too many clean waves to ride downwind and across the swells. The upwind runs were a lot tougher than they can be on those sections as well and we had some awkward side waves to adjust to everytime we turned to change direction.
It was good to see that everyone stuck with it and took up the challenge with all paddlers completeing the course. It was quite challenging all round, but I'm sure everyone gained valuable experience from this course and also a lot of personal satisfaction.
42 Paddlers on the water, we pleased to be getting this steady support from you all. I know the supporters and spectators really enjoyed the opportunity to follow all the paddlers right around the course, offering support and some coaching.
There were no major dramas and some enjoyed a dip as it was hot work out there, while others cut the course a bit fine in places and landed in some big patches of weed and I know of one rudder that also had an altercation with a rock.
We had a whoops with the memory card in the camera this week, so we've lost a whole bunch of photos so there will be no slideshow on the website this week just an article.............stink I know, as you all enjoy the photos more than the race articles (-:
For those that are heading off to Trans Taupo this weekend best wishes to all.
A couple of things to look at for Trans Taupo:
read all the race information carefully
you can get penalised 1 minute for jumping the start
you can get disqualified for taking off in the wrong start group
you can get disqualified when you gear is checked at the finish, if you leave out any of the compulsary safety gear.
Read all the files from the Trans Taupo race website!
The next race we have to start on time as many of our paddlers have Family committments.................leave passes to attend these races for a 2 hour period.........or there abouts.
We also have to look after those who have 1.5 hours to drive to get to our races and the same to get home. It's all about looking after your mates and not keeping them waiting.
The next race is on Sunday April 4, 2010.......... 10 am start................. at Petone by the Wellington Waterski Club, course down to the Interislander and back, distance 13 km.
This race will start on time at 10 am there will be no exceptions.............. there will be no late starters........... Other than that you can all give each other the appropriate banter, support or rarking up..............same to us Organisers no one is immune.
Thanks to those who swapped boats mid course to help others out and supported those who got into difficulties, you all make our job that much easier by supporting and looking after each other and this goes right through to those people who help get crews organised and boats transported to the venues.
Again congrats to all those for their support and efforts today, both on and off the water.
